Silverwood Park Walkers (north metro) - walk + optional free concert

Three Rivers Parks offer some fantastic free summer concerts. Walk the one-and-a-quarter mile paved trail through several beautiful mini-ecosystems (oak savannah, prairie, wetland, lacustrine.) Meet in the vicinity of the main, front door of the visitor center (the door closest to the parking lot.) We'll kick off by 4:45 pm, and go around once or twice, depending on who shows up and the distance that is comfortable for them. On-site refreshments cafe offers freshly made sandwiches, pastries, and beverages. If you're staying for the concert that starts at 6:30 pm, bring your own picnic dinner, or buy something there. Concert artists: Salsa del Sol. In case of rain, concert will move into the large reception hall indoors. Concert is free, and there is ample free parking.

I'll be leaving the house soon to go over there, and will not have access to Meetup once I leave. We'll kick off on the walk by 4:45. Concert is at 6:30 if you just want to come over for that.

I'd like to bring my dog along, but the park website says there is only 1 mile of dog approved trails, probably paved. Is that the one we are taking or should I leave the doggie home?

    August 16, 2014

    • kathy a

I will answer more at length to you privately, but the short answer is that in a group setting it is best to leave the doggie home.

  • Jo

    I don't have a credit card.

    June 26, 2014

    • kathy a

For those who have not paid dues online, I will collect the $5 dues at the walk.

      August 16, 2014

  • Ellen V.

What are the paths like? Do you recommend hiking boots?

    August 16, 2014

    • kathy a

The paths are paved (and on the island they have wood chips), so regular walking or running shoes are fine.

      August 16, 2014

  • Ellen V.

Hi Cathy, are you saying the fee is $5 per walk?

    August 16, 2014

    • kathy a

The fee is $5 per year.

      August 16, 2014

  • Anne t.

I am sorry but I signed up for a 14 hour shift at work on Sunday before I looked at my Calendar and forgot about the walking so I regret I won't be able to make it there!

    August 15, 2014

    • kathy a

Hope to see you at another walk in the future. No worries!

I will be working until 4:30 that day. Might be able to attend the concert, but will see how I'm feeling.

I happened to be at Silverwood today--the wildflowers are in bloom, and there are butterflies flying around. It's beautiful!

I've never gone to a meetup. Live near this park. Where do I find you?

    July 7, 2014

    • kathy a

We will be in the vicinity of the main, front door of the visitor center (the door closest to the parking lot.)

What are the Member Dues? I thought there were none

    June 26, 2014

    • kathy a

Dues for active members of the Walking Meetup are $5 per year. This helps cover the hosting fee that Meetup charges to the Organizer. (Each Meetup Organizer handles this their own way--some Organizers donate this fee out of their own pocket, some ask for voluntary donations, some charge dues.)
