If you've never walked along the Rice Creek Trail, you're in for a treat! Thank goodness that planners had the foresight to set aside this green buffer all along the creek. It's beautiful, with the creek meandering back and forth under several foot bridges.
The parking lots for this park are accessible off 71st Ave NE which goes in from the University Av frontage road (the old Columbia Arena is a landmark right there.) Let's meet by the large picnic pavilion which is near the furthest parking area. Trails are paved or crushed limestone, and with some gentle hills, though there is one steep hill--some members of the group may want to turn back at that point, which is fine.
Assemble at 9:00 am, and take off is at 9:15. Bring water and a snack for yourself.
We''ll walk a circuit and be back to the cars by 10:45 am.
