Turkey Swamp Park

Turkey Swamp Park CampgroundsHello Walkers... Sunday February 24th @ 9:00am. We will be Exploring Another Park.... This time it will be Turkey Swamp Park...

As you all know, we've been hitting the trails in the County Parks lately and everyone seems to be enjoying it. We have to admit... It's certainly different from the Beautiful Shore Line that we Love to do... And every bit as enjoyable too.... Those of you who have been on the last few Park Walks can vouch for the Beauty and the Excitement these trails have to offer....

This week... Our very Good Friend, Bob Grize will be leading the walk... As a matter of fact, It was he who suggested this Park and also offered to assist with his leadership in getting us through the trails.... Since he knows these trails pretty well, and has walked them many many times.... I know we'll all be in good hands with Bob Leading the way....

This park was named "Turkey" after the historical label for Adelphia, and "Swamp" because the thick forest with its high water table forms sphagnum bogs wherever the land dips. The core of the park (lake, picnic areas and campgrounds) was purchased in 1963, while the addition of adjacent land in the 1970s and more recently gave the park its present configuration.

A walk through Turkey Swamp reveals a primitive wilderness.  Much of the park is forested by pitch pine and oak trees with an understory of bracken fern, pepper bush, blueberry, and catbriar. Many plants and animals associated with the NJ Pine Barrens can be found here.

Please Dress For The Weather !  We Will Walk in a Lite Rain or Sun Shine and even the Snow... ONLY A Heavy Rain or Blizzard will Cancel this walk... Those of you signed up will be E-mailed of any Cancellations and it will Also Be Posted On This Page..... If in Doubt... Please Check Your E-Mails

Thank You All again for coming at least 10 minutes early... This is working out very well.... We will leave @ 9:00am Sharp !

I went to 7 Presidents' park by mistake, and found there a group of volunteers planting grass on sand dunes. So, I worked with them for 2 hours. I missed a walk with you but at least did something good. See you next Sunday .

Now, I know why it got the name swamp, especially after days of rain.

Hi Guys.... Here's something we can do after the walk... Since there is No Place nearby to eat like a Restaurant or Deli.... Whatdaya say we all bring in something and hang out by the Fireplace that's in the Shelter right where we park.... Here's some Ideas for you: You can Bring a Thermos with Coffee or Hot Chocolate, some Fruit, Granola Bars, Cookies Brownies or what ever else you can think of.... It's all good no matter what you like to have... This Always ends up being fun to do after the walk... And what better way to do it then amongst Friends in front of a nice Warm Fire....
