PLEASE NOTE: This is a little more work than our average walk. More of a hike really, although it's all paved (a wide road around the perimeter of the island). There are two or three elevations that are somewhat challenging, but anyone who walks regularly and at a brisk pace shouldn't have a problem with it.
This meetup starts at 9:30am. That way we have a chance to find everyone before the long line to the ferry forms on the ferry landing. The Angel Island Ferry leaves exactly at 10:00. If you get there late, look for me on the upper deck of the ferry or a large group. If anyone is willing to organize carpools to Tiburon, please post a comment on the Meetup web site and let people know.
PARKING: Chase Bank (1535 Tiburon Boulevard) and Bank of America (1601 Tiburon Boulevard) has weekend parking for $5 CASH for all day. The public parking lot at the end of Tiburon Blvd was $16 the last time I used it.
MEETING PLACE: 21 Main Street, Tiburon, CA 94920. This is the ferry landing (a small dock) that you won't see from Main Street but you can see the sign. You walk between two buildings and you're there.
FERRY: Adults are $13.50 CASH ONLY roundrip from Tiburon to Angel Island via The Angel Island-Tiburon Ferry. You pay for tickets as you board the ferry. There is no admission fee on Angel Island. This ferry runs every hour. If you want to take a ferry from another location, send me an email the day before the hike and give me a heads up to look for you once we get to the island.
THE WALK: Dress for almost any weather as we never know what to expect, even in warm weather. This is everyone's favorite. A 5-mile walk on paved paths around the exterior of Angel Island with fantastic views of the bay. The walk itself takes a few hours. Then there's the time it takes to ferry to and from the island and we sometimes have to wait for a ferry on the way back, so leave at least 3 hours open in your schedule from start to finish (not including lunch).
LUNCH AFTER THE WALK: I'd like to have lunch on the island after the walk. There's a great picnic area right where the boats dock. You can bring lunch or buy something at the little cafe (they have a nice selection and the prices weren't too bad). There may be lockers available for a small fee near the boat landing, but I wouldn't count on them.
THINGS TO BRING: Water, probably a hat, money for lunch or a snack, a camera or your phone camera, and a few layers of clothing (it could be hot on one side of the island and cold on the other).
