For those of you who feel that you're ready for something a little more challenging, we've formed a new related group called East Bay Hikers.
East Bay Hikers is aimed at the same age group as East Bay Walkers, the[masked]-something category, who want some exercise and a little socializing. The group is for novice to intermediate-level hikers and events will mostly be scheduled on Sunday mornings (from time-to-time I'll schedule something on Saturdays as well or in place of a Sunday hike). You can warm-up with East Bay Walkers on a Saturday morning, and hit the trails with East Bay Hikers on Sunday. By the end of the weekend, you'll feel like you've really accomplished something.
As with East Bay Walkers, there's no charge for East Bay Hikers. There may be the occasional coffee or lunch afterwards and there are also parking fees for some of our locations.
Most of the hikes will be 2 to 3 hours in length on well-established trails. There will be various levels of difficulty in climbing hills so you should consult a physician if you're not sure about your abilities. We like to have scenic locations and will always strive to make the meeting places easy to find, but some may be more difficult than others.
I hope many of you will decide to join East Bay Hikers and participate in both of these Meetup groups. I?m looking forward to meeting you at the hikes and would enjoy hearing about any hiking suggestions or tips you may have.
** We don't all walk together in one group** (Some people have asked why we don't.)
Meet other local people in their 30's, 40's & 50's who are interested in Walking for fitness (some members in their 60's too).
Not much of a jogger? Me neither. I prefer the relaxation and conversation you gain from walking with a group of friends. Walking in a location with a view, away from the street noise, is a big plus. One of my favorites is Angel Island.
Prefer those who are in relatively good shape (capable of walking at a good pace for at least an hour and able to talk at the same time). If you're not sure, chances are you should visit your doctor first.
The walks are free. There's no membership fee or event fee for this group. I pay Meetup for the group and consider it my gym membership.
Parking is mostly free at our walking locations, or any coffee or lunches we decide to have during or after a walking event.
I try to make the events easy to find, but some are a little more complicated. You should use an online map site whenever possible.
