Welcome to Walkies! Bring the dog... Wellington’s premier social networking group for dogs and the humans who love to hang out with them!
This is a relaxed, casual, friendly (and very cool!) group for anyone with or without a dog, who loves any dog, and would like to get out and about with the pooches and just do stuff.
What sort of stuff? Well, anything dog-related really. We do beach walks, garden walks, bush trail walks, hill walks, picnics, play sessions and doggy-friendly cafes and pubs (once we discover them!).
Open to suggestions?
What kind of dog friendly activities would you like to see in this group?
Take the Poll (click on the ‘More’ tab) and let us know! We'd love to know what YOU would love to do more of, because things don't happen by accident. Please feel free to e-mail the organisers with any other suggestions, or simply post up a new meetup yourself!
If you &/or the pooch want to do something, chances are others would love to join you!
If you & the pooch want to go for a walk, a run, a tramp, a swim, a sail, a drive, a motorbike ride (well, maybe?), a camping trip or weekend away, suggest it as a meetup!
If your pooch is bored with your company and wants to hang out and have a play date in the park or on the beach with other 4-legged comrades, suggest it as a meetup!
If you want to go to a dog show, a pet expo, sheep dog trials or an old Lassie movie (God bless!), suggest it as a meetup!
If you want to have coffee or indulge in some retail therapy shopping for the latest doggy fashion accessories with other humans while your pooch is having its nails done and fur styled at the doggy day spa, why not arrange a group pooch pampering session?, suggest it as a meetup!
If you do voluntary work for worthy dog-related causes and want to get others involved, suggest it as a meetup!
Get the picture? Whatever group thing you want to do, you can make it happen!
Something you want to do?
Click 'schedule a new meetup' and set it up! When 2 other people say they're coming along, it gets announced to everyone automatically. Job done.
Who'll be the 'host' for an event?
Well, if you suggested it, you're probably the best person to do that! "Hosting" isn't a big thing to worry about - just keep in mind 3 simple things:
1. If people turn up, how will they be able to identify / find you?
2. It can be intimidating when you don't know anyone, so make it easy and welcoming for new people coming for the first time.
3. Make sure people know what to expect, when it starts and how long you'll hang around for latecomers.
That's all there is to it, really.
Nothing too serious, it’s only common sense stuff:-
1. The activity must be dog-related.
2. The activity must be legal.
3. All pooches (and humans) must be friendly, social and non-aggressive.
4. Owners are responsible for their dogs.
5. Abide by dog on-leash requirements in areas specified by council and conservation authorities.
6. At all times, we respect our environment, and tidy after ourselves.
Now, we’ve noticed that some of our dog owner members have photos of their dogs as their Profile Photo. We think this is a great idea! We would actually like ALL members who own dogs to do the same. You can be in the photo with your dog(s) if you like, as long as the pooches feature!
The pooches are valued group members too and we want to know about them as well as you. So, we’ve added a couple of extra doggy questions to your profile. If you own a dog(s), it would be great if you could take the time to complete these.
It is all about the dogs, after all........ and us humans who tag along!
If any questions, suggestions, feedback, comments or random thoughts, please feel free to email us at any time.
