The 7 Scenic Neighborhoods Walk (South of West Portal)

Now open for RSVPs. Anyone may quit the walk at the half-way point, Glen Park, and leave on BART. The first half of this walk is easy, the second half is much harder because it goes up Diamond Heights. The only cost is $3 cash for the walk, but never at the starting point. Kids free. We meet in front of a Starbucks with 2 restrooms, about 1 block West of the West Portal Muni Station, cross street is Vicente. One can take the K, L, or M lines to reach the station.

One should bring a sack lunch or buy one at our starting point. At 11:10 AM we will start walking East on Vicente Street towards St. Francis Wood which bends South and becomes Santa Clara Ave. We will continue on Santa Clara Avenue and then turn right on Monterey Boulevard. Then we visit the 2 big fountains. After exploring St. Francis Wood we will walk through Monterey Heights.

We plan to eat our sack lunches at the Sunnyside Recreation Center and then walk to the Sunnyside Conservatory. Then we walk to Glen Park. The walk is easy up to this point, and attendees who want may leave early by the Glen Park BART Station. Then the group walks up Diamond Heights. Then we walk down Noe Valley, and end in the Mission neighborhood. I estimate the distance is 6 miles or less. Estimated arrival at our end point, the 24th Street BART Station, is 4:15 PM.

If you have any questions about how to get around the Bay Area on public transportation below is a trip planner link:

I discourage people from driving and parking in SF. If one has to drive to this event one can park for free during the weekends on the street in the nearby St. Francis Wood neighborhood.

We got to our endpoint 10 minutes late. We were delayed because one of our restroom stops, the Glen Park Recreation Center, was to our complete surprise in the middle of being completely renovated. We can look forward to the day when it reopens. All that was available there for us was a couple of stinky porta-potties.

My friend that was going with me bailed at The Last Minute. I'm so disappointed, and yet too chicken to do the trip from south San Jose alone. Bummer.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
