Now open for RSVPs. Free walk. We will gather at Noon in front of the Starbucks at the corner of Davis & Jackson Streets. It is 5 short blocks North of the Embarcadero BART Station. Either bring a sack lunch or buy one at or near our starting point. Only use the Starbucks restroom if you buy something there. The nearby Safeway store has 2 adequate restrooms. At 12:10 PM we will start our walk by crossing Jackson and Davis streets to the nearby Sydney Walton Park where we plan to take our group photo with the group on the grass and the photographer at the top of the big stairway.
Meetup.com no longer allows Organizers to change the color of the text in the event descriptions. So the best I can do right at the moment to improve the color is to make a link to a page with the text in color black. The link is below:

Then we will walk to the Levi Plaza Fountain, but before getting there we will stop at a location in recent history, the site of the old KGO radio station. In December, 2011, most of the radio hosts of this previously #1 Bay Area station were ambush fired and walked to the curb like small time criminals by a giant corporation, Cumulus, that buys radio stations and makes money by replacing local shows with cheap sydicated shows. Back then people came to this site to protest and KGO's ratings tanked.
We will eat our sack lunches near the lovely Levi Plaza Fountain. We will visit the Levi Strauss Museum. We will visit the Jackson Square area which has buildings from the 1850s and 1860s. We will see: the place where television was invented; the New Hippodrome, the last vestige of the Barbary Coast; and an 1854 building that was a bank and the bank manager was famed Civil War general William Tecumseh Sherman way before he became a general.
We will visit the FREE Pacific Heritage Museum at 608 Commercial Street, between Montgomery Street and Kearny Street. The museum staff are always very happy to see us and they have fine restrooms. The nearby historic old Bank of America building is now owned by a combination expensive men's clothing store and private club. I previously planned to have us go inside in groups of ten, but different people running the place tell us different rules so we will not go inside as a group.
This walk is completely flat and length is less than 2 miles and we hope to end at our starting point about 4:00 PM. We plan to go inside 3 museums & galleries.
For any questions about how to get around the Bay Area on public transportation click on the government provided trip planner link below:
It is much better to take public transportation than to drive to SF, but if one has to drive here is parking info. Every Saturday there is a Farmers Market around the Ferry Building. You may get validated parking from them. I have a leaflet from them that says the least costly pay parking is at the Golden Gateway Garage, 250 Clay Street, which has parking all day between 8 am & 10 pm, with validation, for only $3. Without validation it is $7. It has over 600 spaces. That is our latest information and things might change. Below is a link to the Golden Gateway Garage rates:
The Farmers Market used to, on the internet, give lots of parking information. Now they have just a short description on parking which is at the link below:
