Annual Banquet & Talk: "Starlight Nights: Adventures of a Stargazer"

Our annual banquet will be taking place on Thursday, December 5 at DeCarlo's Banquet Center in Warren. We will give out awards to accomplished members, remember the year gone by, and enjoy a talk by an illustrious guest.

There is no dress code per se, but most members dress up at least to business casual if not formal clothing. Usually there is only one tuxedo on hand...

Mike Simonsen, development director of the AAVSO, creator of Simostronomy, variable star observer supreme, and former WAS president, is our speaker of honor. Quoth Mike: "I'm going to steal Leslie Peltier's title and call it 'Starlight Nights: Adventures of a Stargazer'. It will be a personal, and often humorous, look at my experiences as an amateur astronomer and how it has influenced my life."

The cash bar opens at 6:30 PM; dinner is at 7:30 PM. Dinner will be buffet style this year, and will feature three meats, plus pasta, potato, vegetable, salad, rolls, soft drinks, coffee, and dessert. The president will give a brief account of the group's activities this year prior to the main speaker. At the end of the evening, we will have a raffle of donated prizes, of astronomical and other natures. One free raffle ticket will be provided per banquet ticket sold.

Please RSVP as soon as possible if you are coming, because the restaurant needs to know how many meals to prepare. The banquet costs $30 if paid before December 2 or $35 afterwards. There may not be room for everybody if too many people show up unannounced, so please RSVP ASAP.

Send a check made out to Warren Astronomical Society and names of people attending to:

It was fun to share some of my crazy experiences and stories with so many people who can relate to things like bird poop on a telescope lens.
