First of the Season - Full Moon Stomp in the Snow

  • October 16, 2013 · 6:00 PM
  • Gardiner Family Cabin

Come stomp in the snow for the first time of the season under a nearly full moon.  We will hike to Lake Mary, a little over a mile above Brighton Ski Resort.  This is an easy, moderate hike.  Dress in layers so that you can remove or add as necessary.  Depending upon the storm scheduled for Sunday and Monday, we may be able to use the snowshoes for the first hike of the season.....if not, warm, water tight hiking boots will work fine.

I will already be at the cabin since I have people coming to clean the carpets.  However, I will assign someone to organize the gathering in the Park & Ride at the mouth of BCC.

As usual, we will meet at the cabin to socialize after the hike.  So, BYOB and something to share with everyone else.  With the carpets being cleaned, we may have to stay in the kitchen, but that's OK because it will just be more cozy.

Jola, what time will you be going up? I am going to try to make it but can't until around 7 and don't want to hike up alone.

I will be at the park and ride at the mouth of BCC at 5:25 and will leave at 5:35. Anyone that wants a ride or would like to carpool should meet me there.

    October 16, 2013

    • Missy K.

Thought meet time was 6. That is what I had confirmed with Rick.

      October 16, 2013

    • David "The B.

Yeah. I had thought it was 6pm at the cabin. That was my mistake. So if anyone wants to carpool we will be meeting at 6pm at the park and ride.

Meetup should be at 6:00 so people have time to get there from work. It will be a nearly full moon, so it won't hurt us. Also, there are a few people that will miss the meetup at the Park & Ride. Call me if anyone has any questions or if they are running behind schedule. My number is:[masked]-9372. It's going to be a beautiful night for a hike!!!!

Would very much like to attend but I have a work call right at 6PM. Pretty sure everyone doesn't want me to show up and be that annoying a-hole walking around the mountains talking on a Bluetooth headset while everyone else is trying to relax. Maybe next time.

Don't forget headlamps or flashlights in case the moon doesn't share enough light. I'll see everyone there......should be fun. Plan on socializing at the cabin afterwards, we'll probably still be down before 10:00PM.

The snow will have one more day to settle, so we should be fine without snowshoes. Bring microspikes/yaktrax if you want, or we will be fine with just hiking boots. Dress in layers.....it should be fun. I'll see if I can get David "The Brave" and David L to get people together for car pooling. Once again, I will already be at the cabin.

I've done the hike to Lake Mary, but not in the snow. This will be my first Meet Up activity :)

I'm in SD right now, but I'll be back in SLC tomorrow morning (Tues). I'll check on the conditions to see if it's deep enough for snowshoes or if it will just be hiking boots and/or microspikes.

I think that the hike to Lake Mary is an easy hike, made a little more difficult with the snow. You should be fine Katy.

Just went on a hike today that said "beginner to intermediate" but it was definitely and intermediate hike. So, with that, not sure what you are classifying this one as...easy or moderate. My experience is it cannot be both..? If it is; define easy and define moderate please...thanks!
