Green Pond itself actually lies across the new highway to the south, so you never actually see a pond on this trail, but it twists around small foothills below the Snowbasin Ski Resort. The trip can be done as an out and back if you have one car, or if you wish to shuttle, both trailheads are easily accessed.

Directions Take the 12th street exit in Ogden off I-15, head east toward the mountains. 12th street turns into HWY 39 at the mouth of the canyon. There you will see a sign for Snow Basin Ski Resort. Continue 9 miles heading east on HWY 39. Turn right onto HWY 167 there is another sign for Snow Basin. Continue 4 miles on HWY 167. Turn right HWY 226 west? There is another sign for Snow Basin, go 1.4 miles and the green pond trail head and parking lot are on the right.

It was good to meet you. I think Cooper and Mika would be really good friends given a little bit more time. Hope to see you again.

It was nice to meet you as well and yes, I think Cooper and Mika would be really good friends for sure given a little bit more time. Cooper and I plan to join in on more outings as we really need to try and get into shape. Thanks again!

Special thanks to Will for navigating the trail today. It was sticky snow, and just about 5.25 miles so we had a great workout, and beautiful scenery. Certainly a bit warm as well--looking forward to next weekend!

Because I live in Weber County, I will meet you at the Green Pond Trailhead. What time will you arrive at the trailhead?

What time will you arrive at Green Pond Trailhead?
I live in Weber County so I will just meet you at the trailhead unless someone wants to ride with me from the mouth of Weber Canyon or Ogden Canyon by Rainbow Gardens by the ski parking lot. Weber Canyon (I84) is quicker for me.

Avalanche problems in this area are minimal, if you are concerned you can call Snow Basin @[masked] or Utah avalanche center @[masked]

I'm currently up north in the Ogden area already, so I will just meet at the trail head (again if I am able to find it ok) at 9am.

This trail has three options from the Green pond trail head.
    1. Middle fork of wheeler creek to the old Snow Basin road is 1.42 miles one way and 600ft elevation DROP
    2. East fork of wheeler creek to Art Nord trail head (Old Snow Basin Road) is 2.75 miles one way and 846ft elevation DROP.
    3. Green pond is 1 mile one way 187 ft elevation gain

With the snow in the area my guess is about 1 hour per mile give or take.

    Hope this helps.

Ouch! One way distance is between 2.5miles to 3.3miles. Will we be coming back along the same trail making it 6 miles? If so, I may not be able to survive this as this is my third Snowshoeing hike ever. The longer the trail, the more breaks I need but I don't want to hold up any one. Last couple of times, I was fortunate enough because of the folks who slowed down and stayed with me till the end. What do you guys think?

    1 · February 14, 2014

    • Dawn

Please don't worry - im always the one who hangs back with all the slower people-- it's way more enjoyable that way :) also Ill double check the distance because I didn't think it was as long from the Green Pond TH.

I'm really excited. The GPS coordinates for the trailhead did not make sense. I am notorious for moving slow in the AM (I work till midnight). Could you recap the GPS coords for me, in case I miss the Carpool spot?

Dang, can't attend just joined the group because I saw at a glance a hike in Ogden. I want to meet new peeps. Really good description! I haven't done winter hikes before, snoe shoen, but come summer the pond is near the trail, but you have to know where it is.
