Stomp in the Snow #10 - Somewhere in the Night

It's time to stomp in the snow once again.  The weather forecast is not showing any new snow, but hopefully, that will change.  If not, we'll still find a path to stomp through that requires a little effort and trailblazing capability.  We'll probably hike a total of 2-3 miles with 1000' vertical.  Dress in layers and bring a headlamp.

After the hike, we will meetup again at the cabin for socializing......so, BYOB and something to share.

Thanks to everyone for coming. I'm sorry for the mix up with the cabin - I found out that we had renters coming into the cabin that night at 9:00 just as we were putting on our snowshoes. But we were able to hurry up the hike a little and still clear out before the renters showed up. Thanks especially to Kim for allowing us to meet at her condo for socializing. We all had a great time despite of the mix up.

It was nice to meet everyone. Ended up going home after the stomp, instead of socializing. It was still hard waking up this morning to take my kids to school. Somewhat tired, but not in as much pain as I thought I would be. =)

I am going skiing in the late afternoon. We will try to bump into the group, if I can find out where you will be and it is on the resort.

It should be in the resort area. Waiting to see how much snow we get.

Tentative in work but does someone have snowshoes for me to barrow?

    January 29, 2014

    • Rick G.

I have 2 extra pair, one pair is committed but you can use the other.

Last year (and Rick will attest). I Snowshoed up and rather than snowshoeing down snowboarded from either Mary or Twin Lake using your standard gear with the addition of a high output mountain biking headlamp. Rick or Dave I have an extra headlamp if you are interested.

You can always ski during the day and snowshoe at night......if it snows enough, that is what I will do.

We will meet at the Park & Ride that is located just east of the 7-11 on Big Cottonwood Canyon Road and Wasatch Blvd. We will be on the east end of the parking lot near the bathrooms. If you have any problems, call me at[masked]-9372. After car pooling, we will drive to the cabin and congregate again before the hike. All snacks and BYOB's can be left at the cabin. It's supposed to snow, so dress accordingly.

I wanted to know if the meeting spot was easy to find for someone who just moved here 2 weeks ago? I was supposed to attend a different meet up last week and showed up and could not locate people. Sign? Phone number? Also, do we hike with our BYOB and snack or leave that in the car?

So I am assuming I need snowshoes, poles and such. Where is the "cabin"? This will be my first time and I am looking forward to it!

    January 26, 2014

    • Rick G.

Yes, you should have snowshoes. Poles are optional. The cabin is at Brighton near the base of the Great Western Lift.

You can also rent from the U of U in there outdoor store and you don't have to be a student. Good new shoes that are not expensive, like $12 for the weekend.
