Tri-Lake Loop at Brighton (Silver Lake, Solitude Lake, Twin Lakes)

  • Jul 26, 2011 · 5:30 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

We will meet at the mouth of Big Cottonwood Canyon at 5:30 and car pool up to Brighton.  We will park/meet at the Gardiner Cabin in Brigthon (directions below).  We will start from the cabin, skirt Silver Lake and take the trail up to Solitude Lake, then up & over the saddle between Solitude and Brighton, descending down to Twin Lakes and finally back to Silver Lake.  This is about a 3 mile hike with about 1400' vertical gain.  It is still possible that we will encounter some snow in places.  It will probably take about 2 hours to hike.  We would like to start hiking by 6:30 PM so that we finish before it's too dark.

Bring:

  • a favorite side dish or treat and BYOB.  We will socialize at the cabin after the hike.
  • a light jacket - it cools down after the sun sets behind the mtns.
  • insect repellent
  • hydration (if you want)
  • a flashlight or hiking light just in case

[The Gardiner cabin is located in the Brighton loop.  Drive past the parking for Brigthon and the base of the Great Western Lift (last lift as you start to head back north).  About 150 yds from the base of the Great Western Lift, the driveway to the cabin is to the left.  The cabin is in off the road about 150 yds.  The cabin has large windows facing south and a large deck.  Call me at[masked] if you get lost.]

Good sized group considering that the weather was threatening before we started and during the whole hike. I think that everyone had an enjoyable time.

I'll be there to socialize and eat if noting else. I hope everyone is bringing something good - I have home made salsa and chips. Yeah, i'm looking forward to the event.

The hike is still on come rain or shine. If necessary, we'll wait out the sprinkles in the cabin.

Linda- It might be a good idea to look back on other hikes that you may have done in the past and compare the elevation change. For someone who works out regularly at a moderate-intense workout, this hike would be fine. However, if someone only walks on level ground, this would be more challenging.

Difficulty level is hard to define. What is easy to someone might be difficult for someone else. I would classify this hike as "moderate." The hiking is all on defined trails or old jeep roads. It does gain about 1400' vertical.....that is the only degree of difficulty.

What is the level of difficulty?

The location map was wrong. I just updated it to actually show the location of the Big Cottonwood Park & Ride Lot.
