    Asalamu Alaykum!

What an amazing evening, Alhamduallah! This was a most unusual meeting for it was to honor Ramadan. There was time for learning, conversation and building community together. Everyone brought delicious and nutritious food to share yet were able to be patient in waiting until the exact time of breaking the fast.

We had new members so introductions were made with people sharing their names and a little of their spiritual journeys as well as what they are "hungry" for in life. The responses were eye-opening! All felt that it was like having found a spiritual family, an oasis of love and friendship we have all yearned for and have at last found. We are planning a picnic for Saturday, August 2nd to get to know one another a little better. All are welcome. More information will be forthcoming so SAVE THE DATE! Suggestions are always welcome!

PS We'll try to meet at a mosque in MD for the August Meet Up and will keep you posted.

    Blessings of Peace,
    Andra

This is so exciting! This is truly a moment to get to know each other as is expressed in the Quran ( sūrat l-ḥujurāt) The Dwellings Verse (49:13) :
" O mankind! We created you from a single (pair) of a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that ye may know each other (not that ye may despise (each other). Verily the most honoured of you in the sight of Allah is (he who is) the most righteous of you. And Allah has full knowledge and is well acquainted (with all things)."
I do agree with Aref that it might be better for us to start a little later this Wednesday night. We usually begin at 7:00pm. Would we want to begin at 7:30pm?

We are a spiritual family where meeting each other heart to heart and enjoying spiritual companionship and good food from our diverse cultures is cause for a beautiful Ramadan Celebration.

PS: I do hope we have an assortment of recipes that will also include vegetarian dishes for those that cannot imbibe meat products.

Thanks David - splendid to meet you in hyperspace... (thank you for your note - it was "right on time!") My RSVP is "modified" - i may not get there until about 9 PM or so.... if some persons will still be present? Thanks. Salaam.

Would it be possible to start the meeting later or at least bring out the food a little later? For those of us who are fasting -- okay, maybe I'm just speaking for myself -- having all the food and drink out will be distracting, especially as the summer fast goes on for sixteen hours.

Let's bring out food later. .would that work for folks?

A small gift of validation to our Kurdish brothers and sisters, though I'm guessing you've all seen it before. The only two words I understood in the entire song were "YA" and "OOF"!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xmq47LGtv4A

Actually they rank very high with me as a people/clan - another group who I may not always agree with; but would fully trust back to back with my 6. The funniest part is the comments Aref! She shouldn't win cause she isn't arabby enough............you can't make stuff like that up.

If anyone in the Rockville/Potomac/Bethesda area needs a ride to the Iftar إفطار‎ dinner, please let me know, as I will leave Rockville around 6ish, given traffic, and can pick you up.

I live in Hyattsville, near Fort Totten. Is that too out of the way? I'd be going to the dinner from work.
