European Union Open House

From 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, the 26 embassies from the EU member states plus the European Commission Delegation will be holding their annual Open House.

This is an opportunity to take a behind-the-scenes look at the European Embassies, many of which are among Washington's historic and architectural treasures. Each Embassy offers a unique program featuring the country's cuisine, its music and special events.

Most of the embassies are clustered in 3 areas - near Van Ness Metro station, along Massachusetts Ave near DuPont Circle, and in Georgetown. Free shuttle buses will be provided to travel between these areas.

For a change from previous years, this year we'll start by visiting the Austrian, Slovakian, Hungarian and Czech embassies which are close to Van Ness. We'll meet outside our usual place, Epicurean, at 9:30 - 9:45 am. If you're coming by Metro, turn left at the top of the first escalator, go up the stairs, and you'll be in the right place. Apart from Epicurean, there is also a Starbuck's nearby for anyone needing a morning cup of coffee.

After visiting these two embassies, we'll take the shuttle bus to DuPont and/or Georgetown.

Some of the embassies will have food available for sale or free sampling, but please note that this may not be suitable for those with dietary restrictions. The French and German embassies in Georgetown are good options.

The official website is at

Please bring identification, as all embassies will conduct security checks, and avoid bringing large bags and backpacks.
