European Union Embassy Open House

From 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, the 26 embassies from the EU member states plus the European Commission Delegation will be holding their annual Open House.

This is an opportunity to take a behind-the-scenes look at the European Embassies, many of which are among Washington's historic and architectural treasures. Each Embassy offers a unique program featuring the country's cuisine, its music and special events.

Free shuttle buses will be provided to travel to the different areas of the city where embassies are located.

This year we'll start by visiting the embassies to the north and east of DuPont Circle - Poland, Lithuania and Malta. We'll meet at Columbia Heights Metro station, at 9:30 - 9:45 am. When exiting the station, turn left and go to the top of the escalator. We'll meet in the small plaza at the corner of 14th and Irving Streets, outside the Potbelly Sandwich Shop.

Some of the embassies will have food available for sale or free sampling, but please note that this may not be suitable for those with dietary restrictions.

The official website is at

Please bring identification, as the embassies may conduct security checks, and avoid bringing large bags and backpacks.

Thanks everyone for attending this event (and standing in the rain a couple of times). I hope you enjoyed it.

Special thanks to Peter for helping to organize this, and Elisaveta for sweet talking the Bulgarian embassy staff.

If everyone shows up Philip and I will each lead half of the group. I will pass out cards with my cell number so that we can keep the group together. Please try and be punctual so that we can beat the long lines. Cell[masked]

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
