Sunday Morning on the Upper Potomac

Let's go for an early morning paddle on one of my favorite sections of the Potomac River. We'll meet at the boat ramp at 8:30 am so that we can launch by 9 am. We'll paddle upriver around one, two, or three islands depending on how fast we paddle and how strong the current is. Then we'll turn around in time to be back at the launch site by noon time.

Beginners are welcome, but there is no rental facility available. We will play on the water (roll, skull, balance, wet exit, rescues) as time permits. If you want to watch or practice self or group rescues, just let me know and we'll make time along the way.

As usual, PFDs must be worn. A bilge pump and paddle float is strongly recommended.

It's going to be another hot day tomorrow. Please make sure to bring plenty of water, sports drink, and some snack. There's a new pizza place, http://www.mynicks.com/, conveniently located on Seneca Road near the intersection with Darnestown Rd if people are interested in pizza after the paddle.

I am planning to buy a paddle float and bilge pump today and would love to practice getting back into my kayak if there is time. Thanks for the suggestion!

Hi Russell. Welcome! There's s a trip tomorrow at 8am in Fountainhead where you can rent a kayak. It's an art paddle so i don't know if they'll be doing more paddling or painting. :)
