Weekday Adventure Series

  • Jackson Creek Landing

Jackson Creek Road,, Grasonville, MD (map)

    38.966518 -76.220718

  • From the west, take MD Route 50/301, exit 43B for Chester River Beach Road. Left at Chester River Beach Road. First left onto Saddler Road. Second Right onto Jackson Creek Road, follow to the end.
  • Join me on another Weekday Adventure Series paddle to Eastern Neck Wildlife Refuge (ENWR), located in Rock Hall, Maryland. The ENWR is a wonderful retreat for those of us trying to escape the chaos of city life. We will launch from a Beach at Jackson Creek Landing. We will meet at 10:00AM , and launch at 10:30AM. Currently, the Bay Bridge Toll fee is $6.00 (CASH) for 2-axle vehicles, $5.40 (E-Z Pass), $2.10 (Commuter Discount Plan).

    Revised Float Plan
We will paddle directly from Jackson Creek Landing where there is a little beach area, parking, and restroom facilities, to Eastern Neck Wildlife Refuge.  This is a revised plan from the original and will cut our paddle distance down to approximately 13.5 miles (round trip).  We will paddle north on the east side of ENWR headed towards Bogle's Wharf where we will take a break and assess the weather conditions.  It is possible we could circumvent the entire island depending on weather conditions and each paddler's endurance level.

With this new change comes an added expense.  All Queens Anne County parking areas and/or put-ins require a day ($10 for MD residents; $15 for non-MD) or annual parking permit ($35 for Maryland residents; $60 for non-Maryland residents).  Here is a link to the application, pricing, and locations of purchase:

Although it will not be an extremely hot day, please bring plenty of water for hydration and a lunch. Also, with the expected chop often experienced at this location, a spray skirt is mandatory for this exploration. As always, for your safety and the safety of others in the group, you must have wet exit experience and a properly fitted PFD must be warn at all times while on the water.

The weather condition are expected to be right for paddling with a slight overcast of 79 degrees, a 30% chance of rain, and 9mph winds from the south. Upon arrival, as a group, we will evaluate the float plan and assess the weather conditions at the launch site.

Now, for those of you who know me, I love to eat. There are four seafood restaurants nearby, and this list has also been updated. We have a choice of:

    Bridge’s Restaurant (Outdoor/Indoor – Open Kitchen)

    321 Wells Cove Rd
    Grasonville, MD 21638

    Narrows Restaurant

    3023 Kent Narrow Way South

    Grasonville, MD 21638

    Fisherman’s Inn

Hello everyone. It looks like the winds and wind gusts are going to cooperate with me, so I'm going to try this again.
