On Tuesday, July 3rd we'll pre-celebrate the holiday. We will meet at 6:30 pm and launch promptly at 6:45 pm. We will explore the marshes in the failing light, and as the sun loses it's fight with the horizon we overtake the Potomac across from National Harbor and watch the moon rise. This will be a Thunder Moon or Full Buck Moon, because bucks begin to grow new antlers at this time. This full Moon was also known as the Thunder Moon, because thunderstorms are so frequent during this month. (Tell us about it...)
High Tide is 9:00 pm, moonrise is 8:30 pm. This is an experienced paddle, as it is dark, and random swells appear unexpectedly and force one to compensate in their paddle stroke to stay atop. This is also the evening before a national holiday. Unless you have completed courses with Potomac Paddlesports or otherwise, in wet exits and reentry, this evening is not for you. There are no rentals at this time.
All boats MUST have the following: a PFD, a whistle and a light- not flashlights. Light: something like this: http://www.rei.com/product/722830/paddlers-supply-company-led-kayak-deck-light-with-suction-cup-base. PFDs on and buckled at all times.
Attendance is at the discretion of the organizer, due to safety factors.
We will go out afterward into Old Town for a bite.
