Launch from one of Andy's favorite spots: Wharf Road. We will take a right and do the 3 1/2 mile Marsh loop. We will then meander down the north side of Piscatway Bay past the Marina to Fort Washington. From there we will cross the mouth of Piscataway Bay to Mockley Point and then meander back on the South side of Piscataway Bay back to Wharf Road. Total distance could be as long as 8 miles but less if desired.
This is a paddle that can accomodate a number of paces and types of kayaks (and SUP). Shooting for a "moderate" pace so larger Recreational kayaks (i.e., in the 12' to 14' range) would be perfectly appropriate. Folks with longer boats will generally take the "longer" route in and out of the coves while folks going at a more leisurely pace will generally cut across the coves. In the Marsh loop we will all stay together but once back in Piscataway Bay we can string out a bit if desired. Also once out of the Marsh Loop and back into the Bay, it is will be pretty easy for some folks to peel off early to go back to the launch spot if they feel like it.
Should be a gorgeous day (air temps are supposed to be in the mid-60's with water temps in the mid-40's). I know it will be quite warm (at least air temp) but remember the water is still really cold so wetsuits or drysuits please (NO COTTON). As always folks are responsible for their own safety but dressing inadequately still puts not only the paddler in jeopardy but the entire group as well so please keep that in mind.
We will launch promptly by 1pm so please be early enough to have your equipment in place by then. No restrooms at the launch spot but Ft. Washington Marina and Ft. Washington itself do have facilities.
