How long have you been paddling? Under what conditions? We do NOT paddle whitewater (rapids), but we paddle everything from totally flat water to 3-foot waves.

I've been paddling regularly since the 80's, transitioning from canoes to kayaks in the late 90's -- usually along fast moving narrow creeks and rivers of the Pine Barrens to estuaries along the Chesapeake. Most challenging paddling experience occurred up by Perryville under 20-25knot winds, using my Velocity. It was like bronco riding on water, but the most fun I've ever had in that boat. The Bay waters looked like the surface of a cup of coffee while riding on a lawn mower. Recently at the start of this millenia, I've been a lot more cautious, learning to integrate my skills in photography with kayaking to best improve my balance and techniques to capture wildlife and the sport of kayaking in this region.

If you own a kayak, what type and how long? (say "N/A" if you don't own) If you paddle a stand-up paddleboard, whitewater kayak or inflatable kayak, this is NOT the club for you.

Kayaking is a sport that offers a unique means to find wildlife & to learn the history of the Chesapeake Bay region. As an amateur photographer, I enjoy capturing the experience through photographs. Please visit my site at http://www.domjma...

What DJ-2011 is saying about this Meetup Group

[Updated review] My first Meetup: Looking for a kayak? WKC's tryout and picnic day at Leesylvania State Park was super. While I only tested a few boats, Madeline's Tempest 170 proved to be the defining factor towards my next upgrade to a more 'sea-worthy' kayak. :) After returning home, I found a nearly unused, garage-kept, WS Tempest Pro 170 at 1/2 cost, including full gear. After contacting the seller, I was told that someone had already responded and will look at it Sunday. I thought that I had no chance. Then the seller called back,.. the prospective buyer said, "It's just too much kayak for me". What a fool! Only, it was an 8-9 hr drive! I told her that I'm on my way there now. At 20hrs RT, I figured that she's saving me $100/hr Thanks so much for hosting Kayak Try Out Day! Wish me luck! :) [Previous review] Great group of paddlers! Very friendly and willing to allow 'strangers' (newby members) to use their boats and to share their experiences and knowledge.
