UPDATE 04/10/13 - Ride to the Blue Ridge Bikefest, Roanoke (Overnight)

UPDATE: 04/10/13

All - it's going to be perfect riding weather for the weekend! I'd like to arrive at the Bikefest around 3:00 pm. So - I'm asking that everyone arrive at the Wawa a little early and be ready (filled up) to head down the road at 9:00 am sharp. We will do a "drive by" pick up in Madison, Va. at Pig and Steak to hook up with Carlos. Then we will stop near Charlottesville, Va. for gas. There is no gas on the BRP and it will take the better part of 4 hours to transit with a couple overlook stops. I would like to be on the Parkway by 11:00 am and you'll need a 130 miles in your tank so we don't have to "side trip" looking for fuel. I'm not planning to stop for a "restaurant" lunch so bring a snack to eat along the Parkway - if you need sustainance.

Looking forward to a great ride...

Brian

PS - Plan for a cool morning ride home on the BRP Sunday. Maybe 40 degrees to start the morning. Should be high 60's by the afternoon.

UPDATE:

All - the Entertainment has not been completely firmed up for the BR Bikefest, but it appears Mikey Tuetal from the show Orange County Choppers and Tim 'n Tickle from Moonshiners will be in attendance. These are A list celebrities in Roanoke... Wooo hoooo!

Anyway - here's the link to information on the Blue Ridge BikeFest -

As Ron pointed out the weather hasn't really cooperated in the past few years for us or the Blue Ridge Bikefest, but we will hope for the best! So, anyone who's interested in this ride should go ahead and make a reservation at:

Ramada Rivers Edge Conference Center Roanoke, VA

The rooms are older, but it was suitably clean, it's right downtown and cheap @ $64.00 plus taxes etc. If the weather looks horrible we'll cancel on Thursday so we can cancel the reservations. I hope the weather is really nice. If so, we wiil pickup the Blue Ridge Parkway in Charlottesville, Va. and cruise into Roanoke via the BR Parkway then hang out have a beer, talk motorcycles and then cruise the Parkway home Sunday.

We tend to schedule this every other year and we skipped it last year... last time we did this event, we were accompanied by some serious rain.   We'll ride down early Sat using a good portion of the ride to enjoy the BRPW, head to the bikefest, hang out for a couple of hours, then head to the hotel, grab some refreshments, then decide on dinner plans and our evening activity which could include grabbing a cab and heading back to the bikefest for the music entertainment they have scheduled, or to just hang out in downtown Roanoke, shooting pool or something along those lines.  Leisurely ride back on Sunday.  I am going to make Brian the organizer of this event as he is an original Roanokie and knows the town well.  More to come about the hotel for you to make your reservations.

I'm still kinda new to my bike and not sure how many miles I can get on a tankful. Haven't really tried to find out (I just fill up often). So to be sure I will be wanting to fill up at the BP next to Pig and Steak. I'll be quick about it.

No worries... we'll stop just before getting on the Parkway - the duc has plenty of range.

Are you going 29 to Charlottesville? If it is ok, I might right a ways with you and then come back to Warrenton. Let me know if that is ok.

I would like to be sure we get to the bikefest by 3pm-ish... really would hate to miss, Tim, Tickle, & JT from the Moonshiners show... I really am curious about what the heck they do for their "show"

Got a "must-do" event on Sunday. So only going to ride part way down with the group and then split off and ride back home w/Babs. I know us: if we stay overnight we will be in NO shape to ride back early Sunday!

Just like the Highland Maple Festival trip I should be able to make this one. I extended the invite to a few others to this also.
