Getting Started with WordPress (2-class series)

Description

Ah, WordPress, you magical multipurpose piece of software. We install you on our servers and you transform our stuttering little static HTML web sites into full-blown bloggin', content-managin', customizable pieces of art. How do we love thee? You probably have a plugin that would help us count the ways.

In this course, we'll open the doors to WordPress, starting with basic installation, from download to database setup. Next, we'll take you on a comprehensive tour of the WordPress admin panel so you start to get a feel for its features and capabilities. We'll show you how to start working with themes, what the difference is between posts and pages, and how to make basic configuration changes. From there, we'll explore the world of possibilities that comes with WordPress plugins so you'll have experience with the off-the-shelf goodies available for WordPress.

When all is said and done, you'll have a powerful piece of software at your fingertips and be ready to publish your content to the world.

Pre-requisite: You should have your own hosting plan, server space, and domain name set up and ready to go. A basic understanding of HTML will also be helpful.

What website do you recommend we purchase the hosting plan, server space, and domain name from? Can we do that from Wordpress.org directly?

I'm about to send out some pre-class notes to everyone with more details on this, but here's a quick answer: Here are a list of hosts that WP recommends: http://wordpress.org/... and our favorite (not on their list) is http://asmallorange.c.... Drop me a reply to the forthcoming email if you have any more questions as you make you look into your options! : )

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
