Nolichucky Gorge Class III+

We are going to paddle the Nolichucky Gorge as Big Laurel was about -5" this morning, which is a bit too bony for my taste.  Let's meet at the Chestoa parking lot at 10AM and then we can head on down the Nolichucky Gorge Campground together.  Be sure to have your $3 parking fee.  It is $3 per head, not per car.

The level is 1500 right now.  I am not sure how much it will drop overnight, but I am fairly confident it will stay about 1000.  Boatingbeta.com calls this run a Class III+ run at this level.

If you are unfamiliar with the run or how to get there, here are some great links;

      Great group, great level and a bear sighting. What more can you ask for. I'll definitely be back.

    A small group of us are going to TN tomorrow(Saturday) in hopes that this rain brings the Greenbrier up enough to run. The Pigeon will be plan B. We are meeting at Wildwater at 11AM. Email me if you want to come along.

    Had planned to run something with a friend of mine but not sure what yet. May end up at Big Laurel if it's good. Was going to run FB9 on Saturday but it's still above 6000 now and will probably go up.

    Check out the west fork of the tuck. There is a scheduled release this weekend, but as these are the first releases for this river, it seems too full of wood. Once the wood is gone and the releases are more regular, this will be another local run.

      Yep....thanks to AW the WFT is releasing again this weekend. When it ran two weeks ago I didn’t see as many complaints about the wood as the fact that the water level was too low, although some thought it was fine. It is my understanding that AW approached Duke about this and they agreed to a bigger release (more water) this weekend. I have heard the run is mostly big slides, ledges and boulder gardens. I have not run it yet.

      Then again, with all of this flooding lately...wood is always a potential issue on these type runs.

    I'd love to do the Big Laural, but anything you guys decide will be fine with me. Looking forward to boating with you guys again!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
