Haiti ranks second in the world for countries with the highest prevalence of modern slavery, according to the Global Slavery Index. More than 300,000 children (about 1 in 10) are trapped in a form of domestic servitude called restavèk. The majority are girls ages 4 - 14 who endure all forms of abuse.
Beyond Borders, a grassroots organization that has been working on the front lines of the movement to end restavèk for 20 years, is bringing two amazing activists to DC. The first is Alina "Tibebe" Cajuste, who grew up in restavèk slavery and is now leading a growing network of adult survivors, and the other is Guyto Desrosiers, Director of Beyond Borders' Child Protection Program.
Please don't miss this exciting and unique opportunity to hear how the movement to stop modern slavery in Haiti is growing firsthand! You'll also learn how you can join the movement. Light refreshments will be served.
Hope to see you there!
