Come Hear from a Survivor of Slavery in Haiti

Haiti ranks second in the world for countries with the highest prevalence of modern slavery, according to the Global Slavery Index. More than 300,000 children (about 1 in 10) are trapped in a form of domestic servitude called restavèk. The majority are girls ages 4 - 14 who endure all forms of abuse.

Beyond Borders, a grassroots organization that has been working on the front lines of the movement to end restavèk for 20 years, is bringing two amazing activists to DC. The first is Alina "Tibebe" Cajuste, who grew up in restavèk slavery and is now leading a growing network of adult survivors, and the other is Guyto Desrosiers, Director of Beyond Borders' Child Protection Program.

Please don't miss this exciting and unique opportunity to hear how the movement to stop modern slavery in Haiti is growing firsthand! You'll also learn how you can join the movement. Light refreshments will be served.

Hope to see you there!

I guess suffering of any sort experienced by young or old, enslaved or not is bad enough. It deserves sympathy. That's all.

The "slavery" reported did not compare with most human trafficking.

Wow. I am positive the young children working 17 hours today, held captive and being abused would disagree with you Gerald. Organizations like Beyond Borders exist so that slavery will never be disregarded in this way.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
