Want to see slavery from an aerial view? Download google earth and from there you can see charcoal camps in Moto Grosso do Sul, Brazil, where Kevin Bales interviewed men being exploited for slave labor. He explains, "The beehive shaped domes of the low ovens used to burn the forests into charcoal for use in the steel industry are lined up on each side of a dirt road. Smoke is rising from the ovens, and the ground is blackened near the road where charcoal has been split. To the East of the camp you can see where the forest has been clearcut to feed the ovens." The GPS coordinates are 19?52?14.22?South 53?03?30.84?West." So plug in those coordinates to check it out!

Have a great day. And remember to RSVP by Monday!

Guerda Lexima Constant and Coleen Hedglin coordinate Limye Lavi in Haiti, a partner organization of Free the Slaves and Beyond Borders. Limye Lavi is leading a community-based movement against child domestic servitude ? a form of slavery affecting approximately one in ten Haitian children. Through Limye Lavi, poor communities are facing up to the effects of child slavery and learning ways to protect their children and remove them from slavery. See: http://freetheslaves.net/about/partners/limye-lavi/

Supriya Awasthi is Free the Slaves' South Asia Director, based in Delhi. Over the past 5 years she has been identifying, supporting and guiding anti-slavery movements in northern India and Nepal. These organizations are helping communities to resist traffickers and demand the rescue of their children. They are also enabling women to protect each other from violence and trafficking.

Lookie Amuzu is Free the Slaves' West Africa Coordinator, based in Ghana. Over the past three years he has helped free children held in slavery in fishing, and has developed a comprehensive program for their care, recovery and social reintegration. See: http://freetheslaves.net/about/partners/apple/

At the reception, our colleagues will briefly share some of the aspects of their work that give them inspiration, and will answer questions about ways forward against slavery.
