Feb 2010 LA WEB DEV meetup

LAWEBDEV,

Looking forward to seeing you all tonight. Here are our speakers for the evening:

1) Alex Sharp
Introducing MongoDB
MongoDB is a new schema-less, document-oriented blazing-fast database engine
written in C++ that is easy to setup and start using today. We'll cover the main features of
MongoDB, some of the differences in concepts and philosophy from traditional relational
databases, and some common use cases. In addition, we'll demonstrate how easy it is
to install and start using.

2) Ron Evans
Going Mobile
From iPad to Android, the mobile space is heating up by the day. But
the hardware and the OS are not the only playing fields with a lot of
action. We'll review all the current platforms, and learn about some
of the open source multiplatform mobile frameworks that are
revolutionizing mobile applications development.

2) Ari Lerner
Forget everything you know about application deployment
Beehive takes a fresh look at application deployment, scaling and virtualization. It is an open-source application deployment framework whose goal is to provide a stable, scalable, fault-tolerant application in an unstable environment. Written in Erlang and Ruby, Beehive provides a distributed router that sits in front of a mesh of client instances and makes it easy to support continuous deployment. Tonight, we'll cover the 5 questions: why, how, when, who and most definitely what, as well as get into the technology that makes it work.

More to come.

If any of you can develop iPhone apps or iphone-friendly web apps, I have one 90% done, but it's difficult, books hotel rooms and XML interfacings and more to come. Not for a first timer, two overseas companies have already stolen tons of money trying to learn on my dime. Time to go local. If you are qualified and interested, I'd like to meet you at this event. Please email in advance: brad at bradkauffman.com ... Thanks!
