"The Lab"

Speaker: Brian Murphy

Topic: Introduction to Wordpress Plugin Development

Wordpress is a LAMP based content management system. Wordpress has two extension methods: themes to control the website look and plugins to extend the website functionality.

This talk is an introduction to Wordpress plugin development. It will consist of a mixture of slides and walking through real life code to demonstrate the points covered in the slides. I will emphasize the Wordpress way of doing common tasks such as adding CSS & javascript to a site, getting file paths, and storing options in the database.

Attendees should have novice or better knowledge of PHP. Basic wp-admin experience will be helpful to relate the demonstrated topics to Wordpress. I am aiming this talk at someone who has lightly touched PHP, plays with Wordpress themes and wants to graduate into plugins. PHP developers who are asked to make modifications to Wordpress sites will also benefit.

Thanks to everyone who attended this evening. I have made my slides public at I dropped the code samples into the presentation notes section on the demo slides.
