October's event was a good one. We had terrific presentations from YourStreet and Seero. Thanks to everyone who made it through the Shoreline / Jimmy Buffett concert traffic! Special thanks to Google and our (sorta) new host Shannon for an awesome dinner, booze, and comfy space to meet.
In November we'll be hosting three companies, each one different from the last. We've got a collaborative history site, and mobile/social network to stimulate your senses. Bring it.
OpenLandmark is a free, collaborative, landmark directory maintained by volunteers around the world. Mo'Blast's vision is to build a platform that enables the creation of mobile apps. The company has already shipped experimental versions of their products – Fon11 and Open Landmark. The company is currently working two 90-page apps – a new version of Fon11 for iPhone SDK, Android, WinMo, and Nokia WRT and another existing product Taptin that enables people to connect at party. They are in the final stage of their development. The company's founder, Kevin Leong, agrees to give us a sneak preview of their new products. He will also discuss the company's plan to open Open Landmark API in the near future. Perhaps the most interesting aspect of Mo'Blast is how they have bootstrapped the company with people participating from Europe, Asia and Silicon Valley. This company has achieved a lot with no funding.
SKOUT (formerly Wichro) takes social networking to the next level. Armed with the belief that creating a community which leverages the inherent opportunities and simplicities of a mobile device would foster increased communication among friends, businesses and complete strangers, Wichro unveiled its first product SKOUT. SKOUT enables users of virtually any mobile device currently available to create content - messages, photos, videos, with their handsets and pot it to the SKOUT network from any location.
We will be streaming the event live on Ustream.tv. Go to: www.ustream.tv/channel/webmapsocial to watch us in action.
Dinner (sandwiches, salad and dessert) + beverages (non-alc and some light booze) are graciously sponsored by Google.
Thanks again for your support folks. I appreciate your participation, insight, suggestions and enthusiasm. You make this Group great.
See you on the 18th.
