Here's a great opportunity for those of you looking to see how your GIS and WebMap hacking skills can contribute to the public good in a disaster situation. (And remember, for those of us in the quake-prone SF Bay Area a major disaster is not a matter of If but, rather, When.)

Carnegie Mellon University Silicon Valley along with the California Emergency Management Agency, the California Fire Chiefs Association, and NASA are having their 2nd Annual Disaster Management Initiative Workshop and Mobile Command Center Rally this Sunday and Monday. It's free and open to interested professionals (like you!).

Sunday, May 22, 2011 starting at 8:30 AM - 6 PM

Monday, May 23, 8 AM - 5 PM

If you're like me, even more importantly, this means Fire Trucks -- lots of them (Rally Vehicle Map)! And a chance to talk with the people who use and direct them.

I hope to see you there.
