Rabbit Hole Hollow
This Saturday is the first day of Fall! This means the outdoor weedwalk season is nearly over! This Saturday is the last weekend weed walk for 2012 in Nashville. (I am available for walks during the week between now and mid October) For you folks in Southern Davidson County and Murfreesboro, there is a weed walk coming up soon near you in October. That will be announced soon. The Murfreesboro Weedwalk will focus on plants as food.
During the fall and winter, I do plan to offer some classes on winter gardening and some medicinal herb classes.
This Saturday's walk is an introductory level class on my rustic land. Many of the plants are ones commonly found in Nashville lawns and unmown areas. It is a great start to plant studies! We will talk about each plant in terms of food and medicine. We will see what is edible in lawn, meadows, and forest/thicket edges. There are plenty of different plants to look at within about an 1/2 acre area, so this class doesn't involve a lot of walking.
Bring a way to record images, plant names and other notes. After the walk, I will mail attendees a list of the plants we find with their common and botanical names, to aid you in your studies. Seeing the plant on the ground is way different than seeing it in a book or the Internet. Once you know it on the ground, other information about the plant will be easier to organize in your mind.
This class is $10 per person (no charge for young people under 15 years old). Insect repellent is recommended.
