scoop on wild strawberry looking fruits

I finally did a bit of Internet research. All real strawberries have white blossoms.

The false wild strawberry (AKA Indian strawberry, mock strawberry) has yellow flowers. Scientific name is Duchesnea indica.

It's fruit and leaves are edible. This plant, which is real common, is also medicinal. Here is a nice web page on it.

The seeds are raised tiny balls on the outside surface of the fruit of the Mock strawberry.

There is another real strawberry which has the seeds raised above the surface, Fragaria vesca (woodland strawberry) This one looks a lot like the mock strawberry. The mock strawberry has yellow blossom, the fragaria have white.

The third wild strawberry in Tennessee is Fragaria virginiana. This one looks like a miniature of the strawberry everyone thinks of as a strawberry.

The Virginia Strawberry (Fragaria virginiana) is one of two species of strawberry that were hybridized to create the modern domesticated Garden Strawberry.

I tried to paste pictures of all three in this email, they didn't show on preview though.

There, now we all know about those strawberry looking things.
