Have you seen the old black and white War movies? Ever wondered how they sent messages with only really simple devices and no radios?
Come along and we'll show you how!
Invented by a clever American chap in the 1800's called Samuel Morse, Morse Code is used by heaps of people all over the world and believe it or not it's still used by Pilots flying big airliners today!
Here's what Wikipedia says about it:
"Morse code is a method of transmitting text information as a series of on-off tones, lights, or clicks that can be directly understood by a skilled listener or observer without special equipment"
We think we could send and receive messages with a battery, a clothes peg, some wire, nuts and bolts and a buzzer!
There's even Morse code in Minecraft! How cool is that!
Here's what it looks like written down as the alphabet....
Do you think you could send sentences with top secret information?
....And also listen and decipher [crack] it?
What will we learn?:
We'll make a sender unit using simple things and then the group will send receive messages to each other using only Morse Code and their own Telegraph!
We'll even give a prize to the most accurate sender and receiver!
What to bring:
All you'll need to bring is a 9V battery! [that's the square type]...
Cost: $20 per 'telegraph' made.
