Shawford Kingfisher Trail

As always, please arrive at least ten minutes prior to the starting time of the walk

Meeting point: Outside the front of the Bridge Inn - if coming from the train station or the attached car park, walk under the railway bridge and across the road to your left is the Bridge Inn

Areas covered: We'll be walking along river banks, water meadows, farm land, woodland and a golf course!

About the walk:  The walk is just over four miles and contains graveled, tarmac and grass paths.  There are inclines on this walk but are very slight and gradual, however there are a couple of short steep declines.  The paths underfoot can be uneven in places; there are no stiles on this walk.  There are toilets at the beginning and end of the walk, but there are none on the way round.  Walkers are advised to wear long trousers and a top which will cover part of their arms due to tall grass/reeds.  In addition, the weather is expected to be warm, so please ensure you have enough water, it's also advisable to wear sun protection, bring sunglasses and/or hat.  As we are in Summer now, we suggest you bring some antihistamine cream for any bugs etc.

There is also the option for going for a quick paddle in the river Itchen at the end of the walk to cool off some feet before getting a drink at the Bridge Inn.  As always, attendance for the drink (or the paddle) is optional.

By Train: The Shawford Train Station is  just across the road from our meeting point

By Car: There is free parking at the train station car park, if this is full there is nearby residential parking too.  Here is the Sat Nav postcode for the train station: SO21 2AA

By Bus: There is only one bus service that runs on a Saturday with a bus stop located close enough to the walk start.  The E2 service run by Bluestar (Winchester to Eastleigh) Click the following link for a timetable/map:http://www.bluestarbus.co.uk/route-list.shtml

Click the following link for the walking map for the nearest bus stop to the meeting point (walk should take ten minutes)https://goo.gl/maps/Lv8CN
