'Walking It Old School' Scavenger Hunt

It sure can be tempting to stay indoors during a long Winnipeg winter.  And that’s what this walk plans to do!

If you’ve ever been in a car rally, this is like that - but on foot.

Four people make up a team and each team sets off at slightly-staggered times so we don’t run into each other.

Where do we meet?

Our journey starts in the Portage and Main underground and follows the underground tunnels and heated overhead walkways while we search for the answers to cryptic clues, learn a little more about downtown Winnipeg, and then gather for coffee and tea at the Centre Place Café - our final destination.

What time?

We’ll plan to start at 9:30 on Saturday January 11th, from the street-level lobby of the Fairmont Hotel at 2 Lombard Place, with teams leaving every 5 minutes.

How do I get there?

Portage and Main is well-served by Winnipeg Transit but if you choose to drive, also note that Saturday parking meters on the street offer 2 hours complimentary parking.

Winnipeg Square also offers a large, indoor parkade.  Arriving from the south, head north on Fort Street and as you cross Graham Avenue, the entrance will be on your right-hand side.

If you prefer the indoor, heated parkade beneath the Millennium Library, it has two entrances: Heading south on Donald Street, cross Graham Avenue and the entrance is on the left-hand side.  If you’re heading north on Smith Street, cross St Mary Avenue and the entrance is on the left-hand side.

Who’s on my team?

If you have specific people who you’d like to scavenge with, please indicate that when you register by advising you will bring one or two guests.

The greater likelihood is that the organizers will assemble teams based on registration, which we hope will add to the spirit of adventure.

What do I need to bring?

Wear sensible shoes, remember that you’ll be indoors, and get ready to learn some new things about the downtown underground!

Well done, Rob!! Lots of fun! And as an added bonus, as usual we come away from your events equipped with a small arsenal of interesting facts about our own city. Oh, and of course we get our exercise too!!

Hey Rob, Carol and I have another potential engagement this day are are trying to decide if we should plan to take in both. Do you have any idea as to how long the hunt may last? Thanks.

Walk should be about an hour and there's a plan for coffee/tea at the end - we could have you start first but time may still be an issue. If the weather stays this cold, maybe we could revisit this with a repeat walk in February!

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
