Writers Critique

Writers will submit their works in progress in the files section for other members to read and write comments on. If possible, please bring a few copies to pass around just in case, but this is not mandatory.

This group is self-sustaining. I expect to attend every meeting I post, but, in the event I, suddenly, can not, if an assistant organizer is able to attend, they can help lead the group for that specific meetup.

Members are encouraged to keep sharing to 10-15 minutes each, if the group is larger.

Also, please note, there are submission guidelines. They are listed as 'Submission Guidelines' under the 'Discussions' tab. There is a format we follow in an attempt to keeps things moving along in a freindly, yet, concise manner.

Sorry, I had a family emergency and couldn't make the meeting... I'm going to try to make the next one.

Hope everything turned out OK and that it wasn't serious.

I woke up this morning feeling somewhat under the weather and hoped it would clear up. Unfortunately, I won't be able to make the session.

Alright, I made it, so where does the meeting take place?

Upstairs study tables. I'll be standing near the escalators upstairs.

Hi All, I have written my comments on all the submissions, which I will bring to tomorrow's meeting. I have a small request, which is that we might review my work first. I found out yesterday that I have to go out of town tomorrow afternoon, so I won't be able to stay long.

Totally, we'll start with yours first and move from there. Hope you have a fun and safe trip.

      Thanks. I appreciate it!

Unable to make the Meet Up. I'm working at the STAND DOWN event for Veterans.

Just posting a reminder, the submission deadline is coming up in a few days. If you can, remember to try and post your work by Sunday. This way, we can give your work the proper critique and respect it deserves. Further guidelines are found via the discussions tab ... thanks and have a great week ahead.

Hey gang, I am revising the file I posted a wee bit. I will put it back up as soon as I am done. If you have already read it, no worries, it's not a major re-write.

From the looks of it, we have a lot of people showing with time to spare. I did reserve two tables since it can get crowded with six people per table. If we don't need both tables, so be it. I'd rather be over-prepared. :-)

I just uploaded a document for review. See you guys at the end of the month.

BTW, can we invite a friend or two to a critique session without them having to join the Meetup? I have a couple of writer friends I'd like to bring in the hopes that they might want to join.

      Totally, that's fine ...

You guys tolerated 38 pages from me on my first outing, so I think we can cut you some slack, Ryan!

Probably in the next two - three days, I'll be posting a 'supplement' packet ... I am sorry about this, I hate making multiple posts, but, with the past writers workshop I was just in and the upcoming finale at Unity Temple, I came up with a few things. What I'd submit is an additional 5 pages, so, between the two submissions, it ought to be within the 20 page limit.

I'm sorry about this, but, am compelled ...

    May 5

    • Sachi M.

That's okay :-) you know we can always make exceptions.

      1 · May 5

    • Ryno

I just ran some copies and it's a total of 5 pages. The first submission was 8 pages, totalling 13 in all - still under the 20 page limit. :-) Thanks for being so understanding Sachi, hope everyone else is.

I just posted my work for next month's critique. I really look forward to hearing your thoughts. Thanks.

No, no... no scolding here. I'm just trying to enlist your help in battling my natural tendency toward procrastination!

    1 · April 27

    • Ryno

Sure, procrastinating as a tool to scold ... :€} sometimes I forget and need prompting .. ....

      April 27

  • Ryno

Obviously, I'm not paying attention. Submission time is now open.... feel free to scold me as needed.

Ryan, when can we start putting up our submissions for the May 31 meeting? I'm actually thinking ahead for once...ha! ;)

    2 · April 26

    • Ryno

Absolutely, as soon as the 'old' submissions from the previous critique session are taken down, you can start putting up new work for the next months critique. Sorry if that wasn't clear ... my apologies for that.

      April 26

    • Kimberly Murphy W.

Oh, I knew we put them up once the others are taken down. That's what I'm asking -- when do last month's come down.

      April 26

  • Sachi M.

I'm a may be for this. So will mark YES as of now. :)

Hello! I viewed the Submission Guidelines under the Discussions tab. I was unable to figure out how to submit my work for the Critique Meet Up on April 19. HELP!

    April 8

  • Myron L. S.

Is it okay if I just bring copies of my work?

    1 · April 7

    • Myron L. S.

Thanks for the reply. I wanted to submit one poem and or an eight page short story. Your point about not getting a decent critique on the spot is very well taken. I want to respect and honor the process as I did miss the deadline. Perhaps it's best that I come and just have fun as you originally suggested. I can't go wrong with that!

      1 · April 7

    • Ryno

For the writers critique in this group, you still have time to submit. The submission cutoff for the critique on April 19 is Sunday night. :-) The submission period for the ISPS poetry event at the library is past, so, as mentioned, you can go empty-handed and watch (as I am) and enjoy the fun. But, feel free to submit your work via meetup for the critique on April 19, no need to let that pass ... if you have questions about submitting, let me know and I'll email you details on how to do so.
