Cardio & Culture ~~ Djaa

Hi everyone,

This month we will visit Djaa. Djaa is a Malinke rhythm from the Guinea regions of Kankan and Kouroussa / Hamana. Initially a hand clapping dance, it has evolved into a full rhythm.

There is second version of it from the Siguiri region. It is the dance of seduction by young girls during the full moon. It is also played before wedding ceremonies
for the bride and her friends.

Come have some fun with us and bring a friend.

Come SING, Come DANCE, Come LEARN, Come SWEAT!

Adults: $7; Children & Watchers Fee $5

Djaa thank you for following your passion & sharing your gifts & talents with us. Tonight was My niece, Sakina my first session. she just graduated from the dance program at UNCC so it was nothing for her to find her flow. She and I truly enjoyed the energy and vibes in this session. As a transplant, you long for what is familiar & comfortable and tonight I felt right at home. I haven't taken African dance in over 30 years since college, but I will find my footing very soon. I thank everyone for their warmth & encouragement. I look forward to celebrating with you all again next week. Perfect ending and retreat from my daily grind in corporate America. Blessings & peace.

If you're looking for a positive & empowering & energizing environment to be around, this is the activity for your participation. I haven't taken African Fance since college over 30 years ago, but I felt like a member of this amazing village. Déjà is a talented teacher who is gentle, kind & patient. Everyone from the little girls to woman of diverse backgrounds encourage one another. I almost canceled tonight, but my niece and I made are way to class. Any Thursday and Saturdays when I'm in town, you'll find me at class. I'm a new transplant to the area and I felt like I found a new home with this group. Thank you everyone and I look forward to seeing you all next Thursday. Blessings
