I've been a member of the Empire Skate Club & Empire Speed Clubs in NYC for 10 years. I also sometimes participate in the Wednesday Night Skate at Union Square and with many others skate clubs around the U.S., including a few marathons in far away places....
But up here in White Plains, I usually skate alone, since my friends are spread out all over the place. So I thought it was time to make some new, local, skating buddies and form a group. There must be other skaters around here!! Of course, you NYCers, and ALL Empire Skate friends are welcome to join.
There's some great skating in Westchester. We'll skate various portions of the North & South County rail-trails, Bronx River Parkway Sundays, Rockland Lake (ok, not Westchester), and also plan skates in conjunction with the Empire Skate Club & Others. If you haven't skated the rail-trails you are REALLY missing out.
This is for intermediate skaters who want to meet new people, exercise, and have fun. Doesn't matter whether you wear rec or speed skates. I usually wear speed and am probably a high intermediate or low advanced skater, but definitely out of shape. No beginners please. Helmets are mandatory.
Sometimes we'll stay together, sometimes not (it doesn't really matter if we're on one of the trailways). We may designate some skates as fast and others that are purely social rolls ending with a local beer.
If we get a good group of fun, outdoorsy people we'll likely also do some hiking, boating, skiing, snoeshoeing, etc, whatever.... I'm up for anything.
