Hi!

Thank you to all who attended yesterday's meeting at Hennessy's Tavern in Seal Beach. Here's what we discussed!

MEETINGS & VENUE

*We'll be searching for a new venue (especially as our sign offended one of the restaurant's patrons!). Bob has an idea of some possibilities; he will liaise with Claire to find a new venue. David also kindly offered his venue as a possible meet-up place.

*Beverly will update our details in the AU newsletter when we set a location.

*Meetings will continue to be held on the third Sunday of each month.

*There's still no release date for the Charles Darwin movie “Creation”, but Claire will organize a group outing when we have a firm date.

ISSUES TO TACKLE / ACTION TAKEN

*Boy Scouts of America's policy barring atheists and agnostics from joining its organization (details on handout sheet - see http://atheists.meetu... ).

*Indianapolis School District blocking atheist websites (details on handout sheet).

*Write to Hennessy's Tavern! They call themselves “your neighborhood meeting place”, but they were not welcoming to our group. Were you annoyed that they forced to remove our sign? Do you think they could have handled the situation different? Tell them your thoughts – write to Hennessy's Bar & Grill, 143 Main Street, Seal Beach, CA 90740.

*Write to your local newspaper to support James Corbett, the history teacher at Capistrano Valley High School who was sued by one of his students for insulting Creationism in class.

*Write to Pete Stark, America's only openly-atheist politician, to thank him for being proud of non-religion.

*Don't forget to send us a copy of any letters/emails you send – we'd like to keep them on file to track our actions and accomplishments!

FUNDRAISER

*Feedback from members seemed to be good on the idea of a rummage sale to raise money for a charity. We will need donations from members, and volunteers to help out on the day.

*Date TBD – possibly in January or February.

OTHER/OUTSTANDING BUSINESS

*George will list all the movies available for rent on the Meet Up website.

*George wanted to get bumper stickers from AU/etc for our members – any success?

*We're setting up a store at www.zazzle.com, selling atheist t-shirts. Designs wanted! Email George at georgeturbo@hotmail.com with your thoughts and ideas.
