Quicksilver Quick ride (Strong Beginner or Intermediate Ride)

Almaden Quicksilver

Quick After Work

This ride is going to be for strong beginner or intermediate level riders.  The climb out of the parking lot is a bit long (not Kennedy long) but it's a mellow grade and pretty smooth.  From there we'll keep climbing all the way to the top of mine trail before beginning the ride back down the hill on Randall Trail.  The ride is mostly fire roads, but offers some great views of the south bay.  I'm starting this ride a little later than the current after work rides to allow for a few more people to get in on it.  This ride is a great alternative to places like Alum Rock or Arastradero, as it is only about as technical as those places but offer a different view (compared to Alum Rock) and more climbing (compared to Arastradero).  Hopefully you'll make it down to join me a see why I still love to come out here from time to time.

Don't forget your RTR mountain bike and helmet are required for all our rides.

See you on the trails,

Great warm up to the week. I was surprised how manageable the SS was out there. And only one baby rattle on the trail.

David, Sorry I canceled last minute. I really wanted to make this ride, but work stuff keeps coming up. I will look at the calendar and see if there is a ride later this week. -Carlton

Change of plans so I went early and did the ride alone. The views are great.

How's the climbing compared to Fremont Older?

    April 22, 2013

    • David

Fremont Older climbs with out having to stop or rest for too long after you'll be fine on this ride.

I have done a longer ride from the Mockingbird Hill entrance many times, and it is almost a 12 mile loop. I try not to stop on the ascent (the first part I find steep and at my limit), and it takes me about 35 min to get to the top for about a 1hr and 15 min rolling time. I rest at the top at the picnic table. After the ascent it is a wonderful ridge descent. then a rolling return on the Randolf Trail. Really beautiful views!!

Mondays don't work for my cause I have kids. I can ride on Tuesday, Thurs, Sun... Let me know!
