Advanced beginners Waterdog Ride (park familiarization ride)

WATERDOG LAKE PARK

trail familiarization ride

This ride is going to be long, but not ridden terribly fast.  We're going to focus on teaching people the different trails and work on whatever skills people want to practice.  Waterdog lake is well known by many as a great place to work on switchbacks as the park is lousy with them.  Our initial climb out of the lot will have us go through no less that 15 of them.  When we get to the top we'll take a break and go over the map to show people where we are and where we just came from.  This will be a great ride if you've never been to waterdog, or if you've only been on a weeknight when time was limited and the pace was a bit too much to worry about what trails you were taking.  This park is probably my 2nd favorite in the bay area (following closely to Santa Teresa) due to its numerous trails without tons of climbing.  The climbs are usually shorter than some of the other rides in our area.  If you like the single track of places like Skeggs but hate the seemingly never ending climbs this place is for you.

Come out and join us for a great Sunday morning ride with great people on great trails.  Afterward we'll head back down Carlmont and grab a bite to eat at one of the fine dining establishments down the road.

Remember all rides with San Jose Mtb require a properly maintained mountain bike and helmet.  Others may choose to wear extra protection on this ride, but it isn't necessary on this ride.

See you out there,

David

Ok... I'm looking at my RSVP list for our ride tomorrow and see some definite not beginners on the list (totally fine btw), but I want to remind everyone that we'll be keeping the pace mellow on this ride. I want people to be able to hit as many of the trails as possible without being too blown out from hard efforts on the climbs. All this climbs here are pretty short (some are short and steep) so we should be totally fine if we just take it easy.
