So I'm kind of being forced to go to Mission Peaks this Sunday. My wife and a bunch of friends will be hiking it. Since I think hiking is nothing but glorified walking, I'll just bike it.
We'll start out at the Mission Peaks parking lot off of Stanford Ave. We'll then go up the Ohlone Wilderness Trail up to the Outhouse at the top. The average grade here floats at about 10-15% and there are short bursts of 20% grades so it's significantly steeper than most trails here in the Bay Area.
If we haven't died from the climb yet, we'll continue up to the very top of the mountain through the Peak trail. If you thought the first part of the climb was hard, wait till you try this part. It's steeper, technical, and super loose and rocky. Some say it offers one of the greatest view of the Bay Area once you make it to the top.
We'll decide which route we want to descend, but personally I'd rather end up at Ohlone College and then take Mission Boulevard back to the parking spot.
Total Distance = 10 miles of curse inducing climbing exposed under the sun, followed by loose gravel on steep downhill.
The parking lot gets full fast so I always just park in the residential area and bike up to the parking lot.
If anyone wants to join me, then come out. On the other hand, I'll totally understand if no one joins me cause even I don't want to go.....hahaha.
