Santa Teresa Skills day (Co-Ed skills workshop)

We seem to have found a lot of interest in doing these sorts of events.  So let's do one on this side of the hill for those that can't get over to SC that early in the morning or need to be closer to home on weekends.

We'll follow the same format that we're creating for the Jane's Northstar Pre-Ride.  Starting with some warm-up and parking lot drills before moving onto some beginner level trail features.  From there we session my Stiles Demo ride loop.  Plan on being out for several hours on this ride, as the intention is to do multiple loops of the same 3+ miles.  This gives everyone a chance to see the line from different angles as they ride behind different leaders.  It also helps to develop more confidence as you begin to memorize sections of the trail.  Trust me it works.  I can't tell you how many people comment to me about my speed or flow down this loop.  My secret?  Repetition.  That's it.  I've ridden Stiles literally hundreds of times and that's the only reason I'm any good at it.  It's the perfect sort of loop to practice good bike position and handling habits, which we'll help you to learn.  Hopefully you don't have any bad habits, but it's okay if you do.  That's what this ride is all about.  Helping you to become a more confident and stronger rider.

As always a helmet is required for all of our rides.  Also because this ride will see us working on skills and spending a lot of time on rocky trails I recommend pads for your elbows and knees.  They help to boost confidence and can really be the difference between nailing a section and walking it.

I'll see you all out there,

David B.

p.s. the Rsvp limit will increase on this ride if I have extra help from additional SJMTB Organizers.

Thanks guys for a great clinic. Appreciate all the tips and patience in getting us to ride smarter. I strongly recommend attending one of the upcoming clinics. This is a great opportunity to learn about your bike and body positioning, and breaking some of the annoying habits.

So I'm a newbee and was wondering what us poor "waiters" do if the ride is "full." Can we watch, ride, and just not get the oversight of the organizer? - cheers

I can't stop you from riding Mat, however if you're new and inexperienced Santa Teresa can be a bit overwhelming. I only have limited organizers coming to the skills clinic so I'm not opening the rsvps up. If I do it will still be only to allow a total of ten riders not including my organizers

Thanks David. Looking back at my message, sorry it came across wrong. I'm a newbee to the group, not to MTBing. I actually rode that loop twice yesterday and had a blast! I'm super excited to find this kind of terrain in the South Bay. I totally agree on the repetition comment, as the second loop was faster than the first.

Hi David, do you go up Stiles or down? I prefer up.

@tosa you are so correct. I would say that people use the worst form when descending though and that is why they use handful's of brake which actually causes more problems. Especially when its rocky.

Sorry to hear that Tina, however that is why we hold these clinics. So that riders can become stronger better riders.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
