Edit:  we will now leave from Mike's Bikes in LG, so it will be shorter and climbing will start quickly. About 1/ miles and 2400' if we don't take any detours. There are a few optional spurs on El Sereno.

-------------

Intermediate Ride (only due to climbing ~[masked] ft elevation gain) - This is a great opportunity to build your climbing endurance. This will be about 20 miles - 10 of which are on pretty flat land. We'll meet at my work, warm up on the Los Gatos Creek Trail, go through Lake Vasona, and then head up towards El Serreno.

In terms of difficulty compared to the other 2 climbs here in Los Gatos, it's fairly harder than the climbs at St. Joseph's, but it's not at the level of Kennedy. Advanced beginners will find this a great climbing challenge while those that are in pretty decent shape will find it fairly moderate.  The downhill is very easy and is far from technical.

Here are my stats from last time:  http://connect.garmin.com/activity/408906013

As always, my rides require a helmet and a properly functioning MOUNTAIN bike.

I'll have to cancel if it rains heavily.  Light rain is ok.

The amazing shrinking ride. I will still ride but I would like to meet in Los Gatos. Let's say Mikes Bikes at 9am.

Ok Craig, just made you event host, you can now edit the ride to suit what you're comfortable with

Cool, do you want to change the start position?

So I had a bad accident at Demo this past Monday that's left me on crutches and a wheelchair for a bit. I'm going too have to cancel this ride unless someone else would like to lead if they know the route.

Thanks Tosa, I knew all that high flying on my bike would catch up to me someday. Luckily there's no tears to the ACL or damage to the meniscus so hopefully it should be a speedy recovery.

Sorry to hear that Fredric. Hope you get well soon!

If you want to minimize riding the paved part you can meet us at Summit Bikes in downtown Los Gatos at 9:20. The only downside is that you start off on a pretty brutal climb straight up to the trailhead with no warm up. Just tell us if you start from this point.

I do not know the climb towards El Serreno. Is it paved all the way like Los Gatos Creek Trail ?

    January 13, 2014

    • Craig G.

Henri, it's paved on the Los Gatos streets (Overlook and Sheldon) and then enters the open space. About 2/3 of the climb is on dirt. Overall a little less climbing than our ride Saturday but the climb is almost continuous from downtown Los Gatos to the top.
