Here is where we are meeting for dinner Friday night at 7 (closes at 9)

www.burgermetruckee.com

Here is one spot Linda has suggested we go for dinner tonight- and I picked out from her suggestions: - "for casual dining we like Burger Me at the very west end of the downtown section, almost to the roundabout. There's sometimes parking in the dirt shoulder across the street. They have a range of burgers, veggie burgers, ahi burger, etc. "

Thanks Linda!

--------------------------------------------------------------------

2) Here is the link to Northstar:  Saturday morning meet-up at the lift ticket purchase area at around 9 a.m.- as the lifts open at 10 but the rental and ticket purchase opens at 9. Good time to get everyone together, take pics, and plan our day. Call or text someone to facilitate us all finding each-other.

3) Here is where we are meeting for the Sunday XC ride: We will meet at 9:15, tires roll at 9:30. Here are the directions to the SUNDAY meet-up: From the Inn at Truckee- Get onto I-80 heading west. After 8.4 miles on I-80 take the Castle Peak/Boreal Ridge Rd. exit. Turn right at the end of the offramp and find parking along the short uphill paved road. Bring water and pack a lunch.

I'm planning another day trip out there soon. I want to spend some time on the blues and easier blacks with my trail bike. Possibly mid July. I'll post it soon.

Thank you very much for organizing this awesome weekend. I enjoyed it so much hanging out with guys and having this fun rides. Krista and the others who got injured get well soon! Hope to see all of you soon again.

Thanks for the organization of the trip, it's a fun ride. Hotel and carpool is great, saved riders lots of time. Thanks Krista (please get well soon), Mark (great car pool and hotel), and David (nice jersey). For everyone else who rode with me, thanks for your company. Sean, great pics. Sven, we had some nice jumps. Markas, you did not fall!

It was great riding with those of you I had the chance to. Hope for a speedy recovery for those who got injured. Look forward to riding with everyone again!

Nat & I had a great time on the trip. Not sure if I'd bother to rent a bike next time. The Glory was hard to steer (though the loose nature of the trails probably had a lot to do with it). We road the Emigrant Trail on Sunday. Smooth and rolling. I was definitely riding faster! It's hard to take any of those little rocks in the trail seriously after riding Northstar! I was cranking it and passing people (though they'd pass me on the uphill- I was TIRED).

It was awesome! Thanks to Krista for everything. Get well soon!

Have a great weekend everyone. I can't wait until Eli & I go next month to Northstar. Look forward to seeing all the pix and GoPro video posts. Do me a favor, for those who have ridden with us (given our technical trail capabilities), remember the trail names that we could do on the tandem and let me know.

Have fun, stay safe, and don't hurt yourself. Tires side down.

ALL the trails will be open this weekend! YAY! Note the Vista lift will not be open this weekend. We will have to use the trails that cross over from the Zephyr lift to access the trails on the left side of the mountain (left when looking up at the mountain).

Be safe, have fun and enjoy yourselves! Cheers!

Curious about the protective gear recommended for northstar trails. I assume FF helmet, goggles, knee/elbow pads are must. What about shin pads, body armor, spine guard, neck brace etc.? Required / overkill.
Depends on the individual but curious what the trail demands.

    1 · June 16, 2014

I'll be riding in a suit of Armor. Mostly just to look regal and knightly

So my SRAM-avid brakes just failed me yet again and I'm not going to use them for this trip (or ever again). If anyone else has Elixers and hasn't bought extra pads, I'll sell you them as a 2 for 1 price still new in packaging. only $20. They're organic BTW.

This is not a typical SJMTB event. Im not sure who has or has not been here but it will be hard to keep 25 members together all day long. It is really hard to get lost there as all the trails are clearly marked and lead to the same location. (the DH trails that is) I have been there several times last year and love riding there. While keeping smaller groups together will be easier it would not be impossible to a couple of runs as a large group. 5-10 people are easier to keep together. The lifts hold like 4 riders and the bike lifts hold like 4 bikes. I can lead a small group and if anyone else has been there and could step up to help out some other riders get the layout that would be great. I plan on only riding the DH trails and from what i have seen only like one XC trail is open. I would like to say do not try anything you are not comfortable with everything there has an out so to speak.

      aaaaaaaghh, is it friday yet??!!

      June 17, 2014

  • James D.

Yippy!! I'm in. I have a king size room at the Inn at Truckee for Friday and Saturday night if anyone needs a place to crash. I'm fishing on Friday during the day so I'm not sure what time Friday evening I will be checking into my room.....It depends on if we are fishing or catching. I've never been to North* so some guidance to the DH trails would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!!!

    June 16, 2014

  • Holly W.

Word up: there are some trails that will still be closed this weekend at Northstar! If you cross reference with a map you'll see that a lot, but not all, of trails accessed by the Vista lift (that will NOT be open this weekend!) above the Tryumph trail (#4) will be closed. Its a bit confusing how one would get to some of those trails anyway. Plus almost all of the xc trails are closed too (pink trails on the map). The Zephyr lift will be open plus all the lower trails. http://www.northstarcalifornia.com/info/summer/summer_trail_report.asp

    June 16, 2014

    • Holly W.

Some of this could change last minute, so we should check again of Friday.

      June 16, 2014

    • Mark

I have never ridden any of the xc trails and as long as little trees opens by the weekend the dh trails will have all the good ones open.

      June 16, 2014

  • Mark

Northstar tip on tire pressure. Whatever you normal trail psi is up it by about 2 lbs. It has also gotten lost but if you are bringing your own bike check all your fasteners nuts and bolts. Suspension linkage check for loose bolts. Again check your brake pads you will be surprised how fast a day of lift access will wear the pads down. If you have never done a full day of lift access prepare to smile a lot. Also you will be tired at the end of the day. Looking forward to getting out there last I checked mid 70's during the day 30's at night.

Awesome. Thanks for the additional info. Got my bike serviced today and also new brake pads!

      1 · June 15, 2014

    • Sean M.

Also a good time to make sure suspension seals are not on the verge of needing to be replaced

      June 15, 2014

  • Prashant S

A question for those familiar with N* trails: Are there some blue trails rideable on a specialized camber trail bike or do I necessarily need to rent a DH / FR bike to survive those?
I have never been on a downhill bike (or a bike park) so wanted to see if I could stick to my bike I am familiar with. Thanks!

    June 15, 2014

    • Mark

You probably find the blues a little boring some are nice single track most are almost open fire road. Everything there if you are uncomfortable has ride around or roll overs. The nice part about a bike park is its a great place to push your limits and try stuff you might not at home.

      1 · June 15, 2014

    • Prashant S

Thanks for all the advice. Will be riding my bike, got it serviced and got new brake pads.

I will email all riders riding with me my address. to park vehicles at my pad overnight. I am riding sat and sun at north star i am not doing the XC ride on sunday (FR bike not very XC friendly) So Eric if you are a confirmed yes with me let me know if not i have room for one more rider with bike.

Just a heads up from past experience here. Make sure to check your brake pads before going up. The bike store at north star only carries pads for shimano saints. if you plan on riding more than one day and run organic pads might think about bringing a second set or replacing them before you go. I'm bringing my tools along and can assist in small jobs will be limited as to what i can do there but will have my bike stand and tools.
