Details

Hey everyone! Thanks for looking at the Summer Summit Ride. This ride is intended for everyone from beginners (people just getting started) to more advanced riders. The ride will leave from the front of Summit Bicycles every week around 5:45pm and will follow our "easy" way route up to the top of St. Joseph hill in downtown Los Gatos. The ride will feature about 6 miles of actual trail riding and a little road riding (getting to and from the trailhead). The climb is a bit steep, especially if you're just getting into riding mountain bikes, but don't let that scare you. The group will have two different options depending on what you're looking/ready for.

Group 1: This will be the ride group, and will leave from the trail head up to the top of the park and back. Depending on the group you may do a second loop on the top to add a little distance and elevation. This is a great workout ride if your trying to build up strength and endurance or if you're just trying to maintain it. Strong riders will find this climb fairly easy while newer riders may find it crazy to climb such a "steep" hill. The terrain is really well maintained and groomed so there really isn't much in the way of technical terrain, but the small section of singletrack is really pretty fun.

The thing to keep in mind about this ride and others is that there will be steep sections of climbing. So, while the overall technical difficulty is beginner friendly the aerobic difficulty may be very hard for a new rider. For this reason we offer group 2.

Group 2: If you're really new to riding, or maybe not feeling strong enough to make it to the top of the climb this is the group for you. We'll do some riding, but will focus more on getting you setup to succeed in your riding. We'll do a fun skills warm up, that will demonstrate some key positions on the bike to help improve your experience and confidence. Once we finish with the skills warm up we'll do a shorter loop on the trails to give you an idea of what St. Joes is all about.

Please keep in mind that we will only be able to split into two groups on ride where we have two leaders present. This is to allow for the safest possible experience for everyone.

I really hope to see this ride continue to grow into a great event and provide our members with a great way to kick off their weekend riding activities.

Cheers,

-David
