TRT and Flume here we come...

Hey everyone, it's on!  We're going to Tahoe in June (of course the date is subject to change this early out) However I will let everyone know way in advance if/when it does change.

The plan for now is to meet in San Jose for carpools up to the Spooner Lake area of Nevada, near Lake Tahoe.  From there we'll shuttle to the top of Mt. Rose ($20.00 per person) and ride down from there.  This ride is long and at elevation so make sure you're putting in your base work now if you intend to join us.  Unfortunately due to the length and nature of this ride I will be restricting this ride to experience (Intermediate/Advanced) riders only.  The trails are a wide mix of many different terrain and should offer something for everyone that joins us.

This will be my first time to Tahoe so I'm super stoked, of course that means I'm also clueless as to what to expect.  All I can say is that you should all expect one hell of an Awesome time!  It's going to be a day trip so pack accordingly, spare clothes extra food etc.  We'll eat and rest a little at the end of the day before heading back so we'll be home rather late for a mountain bike ride.

More information, including a map of the route I'm planning and some elevation profiles etc. will be up soon.

I'll try and get a new dock for my Garmin this afternoon and upload it tonight. But I have mostly the complete GPS track. I forgot to start it when we left but only missed that little section with before the wood bridge.

Yes thanks David for putting it all together and making it happen.
What fantastic scenery and exciting riding.
I have some simple bike computer stats (no GPS or fancy stuff):
    Moving time: ~2:49 Average speed=8.7 Distance=24.55 miles

What an AMAZING ride. TRT was incredible with its many rock features and decomposed granite trail surface. Unlike anything else I've ever ridden. Top it all off with an incredible group and breathtaking views (though it may have been the altitude taking my breath away)

Thanks David for trying to reserve an extra spot for me, appreciated, see you all tomorrow.

    June 15, 2012

  • David

@art then you and your friend must be two of the people that snagged the last spots when I called to try and add your friend. And don't worry about slowing us down you're fast enough down hill that the climbs won't be too bad. Glad you thought ahead though we'll see you tomorrow.

    June 15, 2012

  • Art

Well, I made reservations for the shuttle a while ago. And again as I mentioned, to be considered for the group I will ride on my own to not slow down anyone.

    June 15, 2012

  • David

Art we have no room for a guest

    June 15, 2012

  • Art

Hi David, I will meet the group at the shuttle location. I will be bringing a guest (an intermediate rider). I will ride together with my guest to not slow the group down. See you all out there!!!!

    June 15, 2012

  • David

@anna let me know asap. I believe there is room for you in the shuttle. I saved 11 spots but only nine are going to be shuttling with us. Linda and Dave are meeting us there.

  • Linda G

it's gonna be warm!!! lots of water, an extra layer (trailhead @ 8740').
& drivers: it's $10/day to park a car with up to 4 people + 4 bikes, $2/bike over that. it's self-pay so you'll want to bring change. if you're interested in other parking options feel free to email me off-list.

    June 14, 2012

  • Linda G

@Carrie - are you coming from Nevada City via I-80? In that case you'd take I-80 East to hwy 267, over Brockway Summit, then left on hwy 28 through Kings Beach and Incline. There's a nice sign for Spooner Lake just before the turn; if you get to the junction of hwy 50 you've passed it.

    June 14, 2012

  • Anna

Jidi and I are coming! We will either meet you at the trailhead or at the shuttle place. Haven't figured everything out yet :]

    June 14, 2012

  • Joe S.

@Carrie, check the map link above. From the Shuttle's Web site: "After the casino district continue north on US 50 about 12 miles to the junction of State Route 28. Turn left onto State Route 28 and proceed about 3/4 mile north. We are the first driveway on the right, inside the Spooner Lake day use area. Once inside the park just follow the signs to the day lodge/bike shop". David's Post above says we're on the 11:00 AM shuttle so arrive before that. I'm also stoked - great weather too!

    June 14, 2012

  • David

    Meet by Starbucks.

    June 14, 2012

  • Timo

Where exactly by the shopping center we meet? In google maps there is shopping everywhere at the intersection :)

    June 14, 2012

  • Linda G

dave g. & I will meet you at the tahoe meadows/mt. rose trailhead, we'll plan to get there before the shuttle. the weather forecast looks perfect! -linda

Gregorio, Timo, and Dennis have snagged the spots for my truck. Guys I take all forms of gas money payment ;) beer, food, greenbacks, etc.

anything... did everyone get the email?

    1 · June 6, 2012

Reservations are made for the 11:00am shuttle. That gives us early risers plenty of time to get there, but we'll have to leave on time. I'll be at the Coleman/Taylor shopping center around 3:45am. And be leaving no later than 4:15am. I can hold four adults comfortable with all their gear and bikes. I can also carry more bikes if people want to drive some smaller cars with people but don't have room for extra bikes. The google directions say it should take 4.5 hours to get there.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
