Climb and Fly-Nisene Marks-Sand Point Overlook- Pump Track!

This is a good place to practice your climbing stamina on a somewhat smooth and wide fire road under a redwood forest. I will be taking it easy as climbing is not my best friend. You will be fully immersed in nature on this ride and at the top blessed with an amazing view of forested ridges descending into Monterey Bay (if it's not foggy). After a nice break and snack we will fly down the mountain- the fire road is wide with lots of turns and is (to me) a blast.

There is a pump track at the meeting place to goof off at before and/or after the ride.

Map leads to Epicenter Cycling in Aptos. The pump track and free dirt lot parking is right there. Let's meet at the pump track parking area.

RIDE RATING:

PACE: Slow Climbing C Pace with a stop in the middle of the climb.

Fast Downhill B pace

TECH: 3 maybe less

PHYS: 5-8 strenuous climbing on the last 4.7 miles up

MILEAGE: Out and Back: 17 miles roundtrip

ELEVATION GAIN: APPROX 1600

As always a helmet is required for all SJMTB rides and extra protective gear is recommended if you are tentative about riding down rocky trails.  If the ride is relatively short so you shouldn't need too much in the way of supplies.  Water, a small snack, and your basic trail side tools (multi-tool, tube, pump) should be sufficient for these rides.

SJMTB is having a great time riding this year so come on out and join us.

A long steady, rewarding and mostly enjoyable climb on a cold , pristine day. The climb entailed about two hours. Ehe decent was fast and furious. The half hour down splated mud up to my core. What a great place to be with like minded enthusiasts on this day.

I wish I were fast enough to complain about others slowing me down :) It'll be cool to meet some new riders from SC. However... surf was pretty good this evening and is looking promising for tomorrow morning so I might not make this one. I'll update my status in the morning when I look at the surf. I swear I'll make it to one of these rides!
