PVS Discussion Group At The Forbes Library

Come Join us for conversation and companionship.

We generally take a few minutes at the beginning of each Forbes meetup to plan forthcoming PVS community building efforts and events. The main purpose of the discussion group is to enable members to share relevant ideas, local and national current events, and to learn from and about each other.

Coffee is available for $1 a cup near the circulation desk, but feel free to bring your own beverage and food. Paid parking is available behind and across from the library. Quarters !   :-D

Hi everyone! We're upstairs in the Watson Room today. Take the elevator to the mezzanine level. Then walk towards the back of the library.

Renee, this was a prescheduled day for us to be in Watson. There was a GLBT event in the community room.

Shawn, very good article, good tie in to the topic. The "The Thinking Athiest" podcast #102 from 4/9/13 was about "Morality", at the end of the show he reads a Sam Harris article that is quite to the point too. "The Myth of Secular Moral Chaos"

We actually have an article by Fred Edwords posted on Meetup (click the "more" tab at the top of this page, then "files") called "The Human Basis of Laws and Ethics," which is also very good.

Point of Inquiry did a great podcast on this issue last week.

I'm wondering what you mean by "good without God." I get the play on words:) I suppose a lot of people take that possibility for granted?

It turns out it's my sister in law's birthday celebration this weekend on the Cape.

"good without God" is just good. (both a good topic and a good statement.)

Nice! A good expansion on a topic we were kicking around a few weeks back: that it's possible to be "good without God" on a personal level.

Watched this again yesterday: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WWJyr99zOFQ I was thinking we could perhaps talk about what we as secularists believe are the most important basic tenants society should value and support.
