What interests you about the topic of the Meet Up ?

I have been interested in the separation of church and state for over 50 years. I was uncomfortable with being forced to recite the pledge of allegiance in school and with the word "God" in our government (money, oaths, prayers, etc.). It seems our leaders now have to wear flag pins and end every speech with "God bless America", lest they be deemed anti-American. Nowadays it seems that stating you are an atheist is akin to admitting you are a child molester. Scary stuff.

I grew up with little religion, but we did celebrate Christmas. I have rarely gone to church, nor have I felt the need to believe in a supreme being. I do feel a strong spiritual connection to nature and the wider universe that is beyond words.
